Grants and Funding
The Department runs two grant progammes: The
Sports Capital Programme and the Local
Authority Swimming Pool Programme. The Irish Sports Council are responsible
for the administration of the Grants Scheme for National Governing Bodies
of Sport
Sports Capital Programme
This Sports Capital Programme aims to foster an integrated and planned approach to developing sports and physical recreation facilities throughout the country. In particular, its objectives are to:
- assist voluntary and community organisations, national governing bodies (NGBs) of sport, local authorities and in some cases VECs and schools to develop high quality, safe, well-designed, sustainable facilities in appropriate locations and to provide appropriate equipment to help maximise participation in sport and physical recreation
- prioritise the needs of disadvantaged areas in the provision of sports facilities
- encourage the multi-purpose use of local, regional and national sports facilities by clubs, community organisations and national governing bodies of sport
2012 Sports Capital Programme
The 2012 Sports Capital Programme was launched on Wednesday 28th March 2012.
The deadline for applications made online and those made in Irish (and hard copy of the signed application form and all supporting documentation) must reach the Department by 5pm on Friday 1st June 2012.
Paper based applications (and all supporting documentation) must reach the Department by 5pm on Friday 11th May 2012.

Local Authority Swimming Pool Programme
Grant aid from the Exchequer is made available to local authorities and bodies supported by local authorities, towards the cost of providing new swimming pools or refurbishing of existing pools. The closing date for receipt of applications under the current Programme was 31 July 2000 and since then some 57 applications have been or are being dealt with.
The current Programme is closed to new applicants.
